Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 24, 2009 11:35 am Hello, I'm quite new here but have been reading a tonne. I have a question that has been puzzling me for a couple of months and i figured someone on here would have great advise. We are trying to choose what colour flooring to buy. We have decided we would get hardwood, although since reading about the bamboo floors I am convinced that may be the way to go. Regardless, we both love brown-red floor boards however my concern is that we have one annoying dinning room/entrance that i am not sure it will work in. It's a small unit with large white windows, light beige walls we recently painted, high white roof and white doors. The dinning room doesn't get much light as it's hidden behind the kitchen but is a continuation of the living area so needs to have the same flooring. This is where my concern ******. Here is a picture of the room before we moved in which will give you an idea of what I am talking about Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ As it's such a pokey area of the unit, i am concerned that dark flooring will close in the corner. To open this room up a bit i have put up a large mirror, got rid of the hideous yellow painted walls and will be making the left wall in the pic a feature wall of white wallpaper with a contemporary geometric design. But what coloured floors? At the moment the flooring is a medium blue which i don't think closes it in (but boy is it ugly!). All other areas/rooms of the unit are open and bright. Can i get away with darker coloured flooring? I should note our furniture is dark wood and we will have white shaggy rug to throw down in the room which i think will brighten it up anyway. Thanks in advance. Re: What colour floor? 2Jun 26, 2009 9:36 pm Have you thought about the lighter tones of Bamboo flooring? Personally I LOVE the Bamboo flooring, but the husband wanted tiles. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What colour floor? 3Jun 26, 2009 10:14 pm when you say darker, are you referring to the timber? If so, then yes, even darker, the floor will go well with a light walls... imo A thankful person is a happy person. (not sure where to get it though). I love the warm look dark timber floors give just don't want to visually turn my shoe box into a matchbox if you know what i mean.
