Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 12, 2009 10:26 pm I am building a new house on stumps and have been told by my builder that he would not recommend laying tiles on the shower base. The builder stated that we would have problems in the future with cracking and movement. Has anyone else had any problems???? Thankyou Re: Can you lay tiles on shower base if your house is on stumps? 2Jun 14, 2009 2:27 pm I’m moving this to the General conversation forum……this is not what I do, and I can’t answer this for you. Anyway the solution is universalshowerbase.com.au or trimseal.com.au it will take away their 'house moving' and tiles leaking excuse. These products guarantee 100% leakproof and can be installed on upper storey's and on timber joists. Its a base that is all enclosed which goes under the tiles and directly on the timber joists. Its even easier for them than building it from scratch and trying to get the slope levels right etc etc. Its all done for them according to australian standards so they cant get it wrong. Sometimes we just need to educate them about what products are in the marketplace.......http://www.kayhan.biz/Brochures/Trimseal%20Brochure.pdf and http://www.universalshowerbase.com.au/range_shower.html Good luck with that. cheers, Kym Re: Can you lay tiles on shower base if your house is on stumps? 5Jun 30, 2009 8:42 pm No offense.. but those universal shower bases look rotten with the tiles being cut 1/2 way.. not a good look in my opinion, I guess that's becasue of the "limited" amount of floor that they have.. It is true that it can cause cracking etc.. I guess depends how they do it.. few ways about it.. * They can put some chicken wire in the bed.. * They might wet bed it, which means they will screen the floor an lay the floors at the same time.. (I personal don't like this idea, as your relying on the mix to hold the tile) * Screed the bed, then tile the next day with a rubber glue, to allow for movement.. If the stumps have been done right, it shouldn't have much movement, you cannot really stop a house 100% from moving, but shouldn't be to bad. Did this to my house, it's on piers.. been 4 years an no issues as yet.. touch wood I have seen poly marble shower bases last in excess of 30 years 1 4504 Are they stumps or screw piles ?
