We are putting floating floors in our house, we have 4 kids and I think it merely comes down to whether you know you are going to look after them or not. We take our shoes off before going inside ALL THE TIME, we only eat and drink at the table, kids will know not to play with their toys on the timber floors, all their toys stay in their rooms and no dogs inside. So I think if your REALLY want floorboards and know that your "lifestyle" won't trash them, then I say go for it.
