Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 05, 2009 4:20 pm I know this topic has been covered before, but I can't find it. We're having blackbutt laid on slab. Has anyone any advice about battens - how far apart to have them to avoid the drummy sound I hate so much - and also underlay? We're prepared to pay extra for anything it takes to avoid the noise, and had wanted the house on piers but the builder wouldn't entertain the idea so we've gone with the slab. We're getting closer to the time now and want to make sure it's done right. Also, does anyone have beech? I think it's a light colour, right? I know Beast has a beautiful blackbutt floor, but I haven't seen him on the forum lately. Thanks everyone! Re: Timber floor underlay 3Jun 07, 2009 11:56 am I am just in the process of finishing up laying process of a blackbutt timber floor onto 18mm plywood. The floor feels extremely solid and quiet without the hollow sounds that you would get on battens. Although the whole process of laying timber flooring is hard work it does feel great walking on it. Re: Timber floor underlay 4Jun 09, 2009 10:07 am Thanks guys, that sounds like the way to go. Any ideas on extra costing? I'm getting scared of the extra dollars we're racking up now, but this is something important that can't be changed at a later date, so we'll have to think hard about it. Hi l plan to install a self adhesive vinyl plank floor. l first need to attach masonite boards underlay to by plywood subfloor of my house. What size nails and how many… 0 6509 Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 3314 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 11522 |
