Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 19, 2009 12:00 am Hello everybody, Really good forum as I gathered alot of info in the last few months. My wife still thinks that I have a girlfriend on line though. We are building a new house in Brisbane and we would like to have engineered timber floors in the main areas. Now I would like some advices from you guys, as I believe you have much more experience than me. 1. We would like to get the American OAk as we really liked the colour and it gives the house a very european look. Given the fact that we would like to go for a modern design around the place(brushed steel and a combination of black and red), I think a slightly lighter colour will do the job just fine and bring some warmthinto the place. We know that the hardness of this type of timber is not really the top notch. Are there any alternatives to it, keeping in mind that we would like to go for a brownyish lighter colour rather than darker or red-ish shades ..... Are there any solutions to harden the floor and make it a bit more scratch resistant or at least improve it? 2. We live in Brisbane and we've tryied Bunnings, Carpet call and Carpet something else so far...Would anyone recommend any other places that would be able to provide me with a good price and quality engineered timber floors? Have you tryied their(the company you're recommending) product? Any recommendations or tips...e.g. What to look for? and so forth... 3. In order to have a flooring with longer life is there anything we could do? - polish it, lacquer it or something else. The last thing we would want is to have speed bumps in our house caused by moisture or some other damages. 4. We have 150 sqm thAT could be covered with that but I believe that we can use a good quality carpets in 2 rooms ...not sure about this. Some people say that(sounds more like the intro for The Stig) it would divide the house in sections, some say that the 2 rooms will not be used extesively so might as well do it there as well. At the entrance we will have couple of sqm of tiles so we're saving some money. That's about it. So far ...i will comeback if I remember something ... Thank you for your advices in advance. Re: American Oak - HELP!!!!!sugestions??? 2May 19, 2009 9:11 pm Makw sure any timber you order is American 'White' Oak and not Red Oak As far as getting a harder finish I'd look at real solid flooring with a commercial grade polyurethane fish such as 'Bona' Hi there, long-time lurker but first time posting. I've bought a house 2 and a bit years ago and last year we had some major water damage on a converted pergola area… 0 7936 Yes, unless you are in a low intensity rainfall area or the area is protected from rain. Do you have access to NCC Part 2 or can you download it? I can email you a copy… 10 12525 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 |
