Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, how I wish I'd found it 2 years ago before I'd started renovating my house!
Anyway, my next job is laying some floating floorboards in the family room. It currently has badly stained carpet over a concrete floor slab.
We are very interested in the ReadyFlor Uniclic product, either Jarrah or Red Ironwood. I'm generally seeing good opinions on this product on this forum, so that's a good start. I'm probably going to lay it myself and save the installation cost (standard operating procedure at my place!).
Some questions though:
1. I noted some recommendations to seal the concrete slab to prevent moisture entering the timber. I'm not sure what's under the carpet underlay, but would you expect there'd be some sort of sealant in place already to protect the carpet? If I do need to seal it, is a plastic sheet adequate for this type of floating floorboard?
2. Do you think I should leave the boards inside for a couple of weeks to aclimatise? The board supplier didn't mention that they'd do this if they laid them for me?
I'm in Adelaide, so no humid season to deal with here if that affects moisture considerations.
3. Is placing these boards as simple as placing the underlay, then placing the boards on top with a 5 mm gap to the walls to allow expansion contraction? Do you need to bond the underlay with glue at all?
I'm going to start boards at different lengths so that the end joints don't all fall in the same line across the room (which is 4.3 x 6 m).
4. Any other tips?
Thanks!
Paul
