Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 11, 2009 10:52 am Nearly every 2 storey place I have been into has somewhat noise floors upstairs i.e creaking etc. Glueing/screwings and batts seem to help but eventually the creaks/noise appears What optiions are there out there? I recall a previous Grand Design program talknig about a compressed flooring product but I don't know any details. Re: Silent floors upstairs 2May 13, 2009 2:33 pm Hi, This generally happens in almost every 2 story home, the best advice i can offer would be to carpet the 2nd floor and use a commercial grade underlay, bridgestone offers one called prime rubber, its very good with noise insulation and gets used on most commercial carpet jobs. What are the chances it will still squeek? Re: Silent floors upstairs 4Aug 21, 2009 2:48 pm I was just wondering if you came up with a solution other than carpet??? We are having solid timber flooring upstairs. What are the chances it will still squeek? What's a Hebel flooring system and how do you think this will make a difference ? Thanks. We are having solid timber flooring upstairs (living area parts) and the flooring system has just gone in ... I don't know what the flooring system is, it looks like some sort of dense board (at least about 19mm thick - possibly more). We are laying 13mm solid strip slimwood directly onto it. We already had Batts as this is a second story reno. Will this solid particle- or fiber- board type flooring squeek or are we only talking about upper levels made directly with beams and pine floor boards. Re: Silent floors upstairs 6Aug 21, 2009 11:52 pm seeking solutions I was just wondering if you came up with a solution other than carpet??? We are also trying to work this one out It is the natural choice! You cannot get the sound insulation values that a well chosen carpet and underlay offer from any other materials. I just learned from a new forum member about this underlay too, which seems to be the perfect underly material. http://www.pyrotek.info/listings.php?id=1594 Then again, it you have to have a hard floor, a floating floor could be laid over that same underlay. We are also trying to work this one out Hebel have a product called 'Soundfloor' which can be supported by floor joists if you are going the timber frame way. Google hebel soundfloor for more info. For me it will come down to costs. I think Ash has come up with a good solution, I will checking out the pyrotek underlay - Thanks Ash Re: Silent floors upstairs 8Aug 22, 2009 11:29 am i like the idea of aac/hebel its dense and would provide excellent sound deadening ( they use it for traffic noise barriers! ) has anyone got a price as yet? i am assuming its double the price of a regular timber supported floor? we are going carpet up top too, i checked out that site gonna give them a call to see what the price is, some awesome products in there imagine if you could fill your cinema room with that! 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Silent floors upstairs 9Aug 22, 2009 11:42 am I'm going to be building in NZ, price I have for hebel soundfloor Supply $ 89 per m2, Install $25 per m2 (ex GST) Most likely will be cheaper in Australia, I would be interested to know if you get a price I have a home gym at home.
