Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 06, 2009 3:05 pm Hi We are having hardwood ironbark floors throughout a lot of our house - 150sqm in total. Our handover is in about 6 weeks - we are waiting around for the granite to be installed in the kitchen and bathroom vanities - this is still at least 4 weeks away, so final plumbing and electricals can't happen until after this goes in. Otherwise the house is pretty much ready to go (as far as I can see - we need door handles and driveway done but that's about it) Our floor installer just rang to see if he could start pre-handover in laying the floors, they would sand and seal after the handover. Essentially he said it wouldnt be a problem for them as they would work around any other tradies, and the only major issue would be if something was dropped on the floors - but should come out in the sanding anyway... This would save us at least 2 weeks work post-handover, ie we would get in 2 weeks quicker.. Assuming our supervisor is agreeable, are there any other issues I should know about before asking the supervisor if we can start doing floors? He has let us do other post handover things early (eg wardrobe fit outs and paving the alfresco and internal painting so I think he should be okay about the floors - or at least my expectation is that he will be ...) Re: Laying floors pre handover - foreseeable issues? 2May 09, 2009 4:23 pm We had our solid timber floors layed before handover (sand and polish after) and saved us a lot of time. We were just told to make sure we didn't get water/liquid on to the timber - any drops to mop up quick. Worked well for us - I hope it does for you too! I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1921 Hey There. No problems re jumping in. My original question was "should I have waterproofed" the concrete slab before putting batons down. We have been told we should… 7 4323 We've had the offer of a short term tenant whilst waiting for CDC/DA home approval and demolition for our knock down rebuild. It would achieve a pretty low rent as it's… 0 13744 |
