Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ does anyone know what is the different between the construction methods of the top and bottom one in the photo? it seems to me the top one may be more resistant to deformation/bowing. top one is a sample of Bor@l Silkwood spotted gum 1 strip from W3st3rn distributor,15mm thickness, 4 mm top veneer. bottom one is Re@dyflor southern box 1 strip from Carp3t Choic3,14mm thick, 4mm top veneer, 8mm rubberwood/Hevea core. Re: Engineered timber floorborad, 2 methods of making it? 2May 01, 2009 10:39 am dont know much about the ready floor. However the boral one looks to be designed ina way with each layer going in different directions so like you say it wont warp or change shape so techinically making it strong. This is done in the same priciple as plywood. Re: Engineered timber floorborad, 2 methods of making it? 3May 01, 2009 11:27 am i can see from the sample and according to their website as well ,Readyflor is also using cross ply construction so the top layer runs north -south, core rubberwood runs east-west, bottom balancing layer runs north - south again. so the question remiains: is multiple layers from Bor@l ( >3 layers in this case) better than 3 layers from Re@dyflor? Plantation blackbutt ply if my serves me correctly Re: Engineered timber floorborad, 2 methods of making it? 5May 06, 2009 7:56 pm hi all. regarding the top photo,is the species Sucupira? as you said, the multi-ply is more stable. environmental protection:3 ply win base:3 ply win technology:3 ply win. price:multi-ply win Re: Engineered timber floorborad, 2 methods of making it? 6May 06, 2009 10:45 pm windboylx hi all. regarding the top photo,is the species Sucupira? as you said, the multi-ply is more stable. environmental protection:3 ply win base:3 ply win technology:3 ply win. price:multi-ply win Hi Windboylx, thank you for your reply, no, it is not Sucupira, it is spotted gum (Eucalyptus maculata) an australian native hardwood timber. can you explain further why 3 ply win in environment protection ( ? due to less timber cutting) and technology? also can you explain what is "base:3 ply win" and why multi=ply win in price? ( in the photo both board cost the same for same timber spiece) thanks Re: Engineered timber floorborad, 2 methods of making it? 7May 07, 2009 12:10 pm hi damon! people use the glue(contain formaldehyde) between two ply,so the formaldehyde content in 3 ply is less than in multi-ply.this is why 3 ply is more eco-friendly; some of multi-ply are good, and some of them are not so good with high F. when you buy the multi-ply,you'd better ask for the test report of the glue. its a trend that now people use the multi-ply, more stable, also can apply to geothermal. what's the brand of the flooring you bought? Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15908 Block of two storey townhouses requires painting on the roof.
