Kempas, Merbau, Keranji and Jatoba. Almost 100% that I have seen around Sydney are pre-finished and done in China. MadCow. Re: Anyone installed Asian solid timber floors? 2Apr 26, 2009 9:35 pm We've sold a bit of merbau T&G flooring with no quality issues. We have ad issues with the pre-finished stuff though. Re: Anyone installed Asian solid timber floors? 3May 03, 2009 12:45 am Hi, I researched this a couple of months ago when I was pricing all the different options for our yet-to-be-built home. The conclusion that I came to (and this is a personal opinion) is that if I was going to renovate and sell then I'd have no hesitation in putting in those pre-finished boards. However, I would not lay them in a home I intended to stay in for the medium to long term. Several timber flooring people I spoke say most of the products you are referring to haven't been on the Australian market long enough to pass long-term judgement on however, they have already had problems. One guy told me he suspects it might be related to climatic conditions related to humidity levels, especially in Sydney. Pix Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Pix If humidity issues were a problem you would think drier states like Vic,SA and WA would be more of a problem. Regardless it shows why acclimatising on site can be critically important. Re: Anyone installed Asian solid timber floors? 5May 06, 2009 8:12 pm hi,everybody! yes,the solid wood flooring is easy to crack when the moisture is very dry. i was once in a factory producing flooring. before T&G,workers check the moisture content of the stock using moisture meter, then select out the boards with high moisture content. the boards MC<13 is passing to the next step;the boards MC>13 will be dried in the ciln dry(one warm house). in this way,the MC can be control well.
