Why would they use a dark colour silicone? That sounds like someone was just being too lazy to get it right. If we tile we were told we need at least 3mm expansion room around the edge so I'm worried how that's going to look. Well he used a light grey silicone which is the same colour as the grout, but the grout dries a lot lighter, silicone stays the same colour. I will do a photo on the weekend. He is a good tiler but it's annoying because it stands out. We have to have the silicone around the edge as well but hopefully it won't be as noticeable as right down the middle of the room. Re: Tile Expansion Joints 4Apr 23, 2009 8:41 pm Here's ours Suh, (pic take while house was being built, not my mess! ) our silicon is actually lighter than the grout though. I don't notice it anymore... Yes...one at each end of the room and each side of the island bench, which isn't very noticeable. I will take some photos tomorrow and show you. Furniture may hide most of it. Re: Tile Expansion Joints 8Apr 25, 2009 4:08 pm After another look I asked the tiler to remove the offending silicon and look for a lighter colour, and as he was going to put the light grey (which isn't that light) all around the edges I asked him to use off white so it would blend with the walls rather than trying to match the tiles. Does this make sense? Is it a good idea, of course it is Re: Tile Expansion Joints 9Apr 25, 2009 7:42 pm You can get a range of coloured silicones from Ardex or Dunlop. Ardex is the better professional quality stuff. Dunlop is the 'Bunnings' quality, although they are the same company. Find an Ardex supplier from the Ardex site here http://www.ardexaustralia.com/product_d ... 26&catid=5 The tiler should have chosen a matching colour. He probably just used what he had. He should now remove the old and install the right colour. Our tiler has said he will be doing ours through the middle of the floor - now I'm NERVOUS! He's done a pretty good job with everything else, so fingers crossed he gets that right.
