Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Apr 19, 2009 12:17 am My hubby wants to get the tiles in our house laid in a diamond pattern. I want them just square. I can't seem to find to many photos of main room floor tiles, everyone seems to have gone timber At the moment we are thinking of a 300x600 tile around the border in black(ish) and then a 300x300 tile in a diamond formation. I hate this idea. What do you guys think? This time I have gone square, I think its more contempoary and streamlined look. I personally think the diamond look is dated now, dont mean to upset anybody saying this Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 5Apr 19, 2009 6:41 am As Taffy says, the diamond look is quite a bit more costly too, as you need more tiles per square meter. Might be a factor to swing it in your favour if you tell hubby he can have the money for something else? Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 7Apr 19, 2009 7:37 am I much prefer the square. I never really liked the diamond. Annelies Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 9Apr 19, 2009 10:08 am I much prefer the square. But maybe you could meet in the middle with hubby? Maybe do the diamond as a feature in the entry way or something? I've seen that in displays, then it just goes back to square for the rest of the house. It looks like that's what's happening in your first pic at the very top. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 12Apr 19, 2009 9:03 pm At the moment, I prefer diamond but my opinion will probably change in a couple or so years... so would probably be safer to do with square. Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 15Apr 20, 2009 10:40 am Hi Neta, I pick square..........a couple of things to consider when doing the diamond pattern. YOu require alot more tiles because there is alot more cutting required to get your diamond pattern exact. Your grout lines become alot more obvious as this is one of the reason you see the pattern..the lines of the grout, you will hope they always stay looking beautifully clean ....it gives the feeling in some circumstances of you having a medditeranian or very classic style home, if this is the look you are trying to achieve then its perfect. Its also a very busy style and adds to what is already going on....in a plain room it will become the feature and I think having the 2 coloured tiles will be enough of a feature without then having them angled aswell. The pic of the display looks stunning and simple....perfect... Good luck with choosing Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 16Apr 20, 2009 10:25 pm Square. Diamond is very pase! I love those white features in the black. Very nice! Re: Tiles - Diamond or Square laid? 17May 08, 2009 8:41 pm I love the look of tiles layed in a 'brick' style not sure on that cost of them though... Out of diamond or square go square - diamond looks great with the right tiles and setting but square suits everything.
