You say your current floorboards are terrible and you will be covering them? Why not do a test run with the white paint on these to see how it will look in your own home? After all you will be covering these old boards anyway. Buying new boards, having them laid and then painting them without knowing the outcome seems risky to me... How bad are your current boards? Have you considered having them repaired? I shudder to think that you may be covering lovely old boards that have so many years of character with new thin veneer stuff I reckon that old fllorboards with a high gloss (clear) finish looks amazing and helps "tie" an old house into the modern reno options around at the moment... Hi Reonsmakemeweary (i'm getting that way too). Thanks for all your advice. We do have high'ish ceilings at 2700mm and the main living area is 7mtrs by 6mtrs which includes a kitchen in the corner and floor to ceiling windows, so it will only tend to make this even 'spacier'. Our current flooring is a mix of 50 year old T&G, new patches of T&G where walls were moved and yellow tongue where we've extended. The original thought was for bamboo but that was superceded with whitewash. I like your idea of testing on the current floor tho. That'll be this weekends chore. (thanks... I think). There's no intention of 'veneer', our intention is full 19mm solid timber T&G. Briz Ms..... No ferrals, just too cats!! Point taken on re-sale tho... Thanks and cheers, The lesser half (Not).
