Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 24, 2009 10:50 am Hi Guys,
Location: Regional Adelaide My better half and I recently bought a house (10 months ago) and we finally have some cash to throw around. We were recently looking at getting a gas heater installed, which conveniently was in the same building as Carpet Choice. While we were waiting for service we decided to look at timber flooring options. This lead us to some rather nasty (in hindsight) stained distressed timber flooring.. which looked good at the time. Long story short, we ended up going to a local store and got great service and advice on their flooring options. We had decided that we liked the look & feel of the ReadyFlor Spotted Gum range, which it turns out there is a massive shortage of. We were looking at $130 a sq/m for this, self installed. Once we were advised of the shortage after they checked their suppliers, we decided to look at the Boral Natural range (the same one that Phoenix is having trouble with, it seems) and think it may suit our style a little better anyway, as we prefer imperfections for the house we are currently in (old cottage front, double brick thing). We were told it's POA for this flooring, and I am suspecting around $120 sq/m. Looking around on the net I am beginning to think that this deal is around $30 - $40 more than what we could possibly get elsewhere. In peoples opinions here would you say this is correct? Or is this price something that you would expect? I am having a hard time finding definite pricing on the net, but have stumbled across bits & pieces here & there. I am not asking people to do my homework for me just after some opinions based on their own observations. Thanks in Advance! Re: Floating timber floor quotes & advice 2Mar 24, 2009 11:33 am $130 sqm sounds expensive. Is it 1 strip?. I was looking at getting readyflor 2 strip blackbutt and found the cheapest quote was $90 sqm and most expensive was $110 sqm. I ended up going with solid T&G hardwood floors as it costs about the same as readyflor but nicer IMO. I ended up going with solid T&G hardwood floors as it costs about the same as readyflor but nicer IMO. We opted for 2 strip, as we prefer the variance in the timber. Solid is an option also, but I was intending to self install, & I'm told solid would require a professional. I'll check them out though. Thanks for the price advice! Re: Floating timber floor quotes & advice 4Mar 24, 2009 2:13 pm As an update - I have the quote in @ $115 sq/m. We are getting a sample box this afternoon to see whether the natural finish is something we are happy with (it's either that or wait a few months) Re: Floating timber floor quotes & advice 5Mar 26, 2009 10:53 am The sample box was great. I since called up another company for a quote as well, as I suspected I was paying more than I should have been. I got the Australiana grade for $89 a sq/m instead, total savings of over $600 for the area we were looking at! Re: Floating timber floor quotes & advice 6Apr 08, 2009 2:38 pm How many sqaure metres are you looking at flooring? (m2) Ben Re: Floating timber floor quotes & advice 7Apr 08, 2009 2:44 pm Wow is this the price for floating floors? That's the same price as getting solid supplied and install!! Crazy how flooring prices are so high these days! Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6134 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3000 To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even.
