Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 16, 2007 1:43 pm I'm setting up renovated downstairs longe that will double as a home theatre. the floor is currently tiles, hence for audio purposes I'll need to opt for a thich floor covering. Should I consider a large rug or partially covering the floor with carpet?
What are the pros and cons??? The corner needing a covering is away from all doors, so perhaps carpeting atop the tiles, and putting in a metallic progression into the carpet is the way to go... The high traffic areas around that corner will remain uncovered tiles. MikeG Re: Rug or carpet??? 2Apr 16, 2007 2:41 am G'day Mike,
I high density quality carpet will suit the room best. I don't like multi-layered floorcoverings. A rug on top of tiles can look tacky and the rug can slip and slide around. I've seen many people with frustrating problems with rugs sliding, curling, rucking and such. Laying carpet on top of tiles can be a bad move too. The recesses of the grout-joints may well transmit into the carpet, showing the grid of the tiles in the face of the carpet. Besides, most carpets are best layed on a good underlay. It will be a hassle taking the tiles up, but will give the best ultimate result and is worth it. Take up the tiles in the area you're talking about and have a quality carpet installed. Let me know if you need any info about choosing carpet types. Cheers! Ash. Did you know that you can get rugs made from carpet? So much cheaper than buying a shop rug. So many styles to choose from, but you won't get the highly patterned… 0 6264 1 10996 1 15729 |
