Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 14, 2009 8:30 pm I am thinking of ordering extra carpet to be overlocked to make a rug for the family room, this will tie in the look from the other carpeted rooms.
Question 1. I will be placing this on porcelain tiles what can I glue on the back to stop the jute scratching them. Question 2. If I have 2 sofas at right angles to one and other, do I place the rug up against the sofas or do I sit the sofas completely on them so the edge of the rug comes up to the backs of the sofas. If you get my meaning. Question 3. The carpet is 3.6 wide so should I cut it down so the edges of the rug comes in line with the edges of the sofas. I have ordered 20 meters and I think there is about 23 meters left on the roll so I have a bit to play with. I dont have to buy it all, only what I need. What do you reckon? 1 You can buy from places like Freed0m a non slip rug mat........it is used also so the rug does not slide around on timber floors and to protect floors...you can buy them in variuos sizes and its like a soft rubbery foam. 2 when laying a floor rug make it line up with the outside edge of both your sofas if it is big enough. You should try to frame the sofas if it is bigger. Sometimes one sofa will be on the rug and one off but don't get to hung up on that if you are having a coffee table on top as no one will ever see this angle. not sure if any of that makes sense but see how you go. 3 I have answered with 2. Goodluck.... Re: Questions about rugs. 3Mar 16, 2009 6:54 am That rug underlay (soft foamy looking one) is great. Cut it 50 millimeters less than the rug so that the edges of the rug fall to leave a bevelled edge. Helps stop people tripping.
Don't glue it to the rug just put the underlay down and then put the rug on top. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Re: Questions about rugs. 4Mar 16, 2009 4:34 pm Thanks guys for that info.
I didnt know about that, I thought I would have to glue a backing onto the carpet before I got it overlocked. So are these things in different sizes or can you buy it by the metre? I think this rug will end up about 3mt by 3.5mt If I sit the couches on it. If I place it in front of the couches it should be around 2mt x 2.5mt. As I think most 3 seater couches are around 2.5 long and 2 seater 2 long. The carpet is 3.6 wide so it will cost about $450 still cheaper than buying one made already I think. I will check out some prices Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Questions about rugs. 5Mar 16, 2009 4:52 pm HI Taffy, you can cut these up and place them at your corners or along eges or just buy 2. I ahve also used this matting in my pot drawers where I stored glassware and crockery so they didn't slip and slide when I opened the drawers.....................
