Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 06, 2009 7:35 pm Hi guys,
Just thought I'd get some advice here. I've gotten two quotes for the flooring in my house, its an area of about 25 square metres in the kitchen and dining room. At the moment there's lino but underneath there's floorboards. So the 3 quotes... First quote is $495 and they are using a 2 pack of Estapol "A&B" polish. Second quote has 2 different polishes quoted... first is for a non toxic "mega" polyurethane, sand and apply 3 coats of for $850 and the second is for a solvent/oil based polyurethane, sand and 3 coats for $730. So... I'm a bit lost on the different types of polishes. The guy who gave the first quote was really trying to sell the A&B stuff, and I asked the 2nd guy about it and he didn't talk it down, he just said that it was good but it just gave a harder finish. Anyways, any advice would be great. My old man had already gotten me another quote of $500 but he never told me what the polish was, so I dunno. Maybe I should get some more quotes... I have a feeling I'm mixing up polish with sealer so I'll just leave my stupidness in regards to floor polishing at that. Thanks in advance for any help! Re: Floor sanding and polishing quotes 3Mar 07, 2009 9:44 pm Dukekamaya what type of flooring is it? Good old cyprus pine. The original flooring. Its had lino on top so its got like glue and the underlay (?? I forget what its called) underneath the lino layer. That's been stapled and glued down so we have to get rid of the lino and get all the staples out before they come. The floors look pretty green from the glue so it'll be interesting to see how it comes up Re: Floor sanding and polishing quotes 5Mar 10, 2009 9:17 pm I'd definitely recommend a water-based polyurethane on it. The oil-based finishes turn cypress too 'orange' and a tung-oil would not provide enough protection on the softwood cypress.
