By taff I am looking at these two carpets. The one one the right was my first choice it has a small square design quite subtle. The one on the bottom has a sort of cut loop pattern in staggered lines not uniform like sisal. You cant tell from these photos but the colour of both are very similar in a cocoa latte tone. They are both 100% solution dyed nylon. The one on the right will cost about $1100 more it has a 20 year guarantee the one one the bottom 15 years. If I go the one on the bottom I can use the money I have saved to buy a bedroom suite Which one do you guys prefer? Here are a couple more photos. nothing wrong with the one on the right though, it looks a bit like ours actually! what are they both called? Re: Which carpet ? 3Feb 22, 2009 5:27 am The one on the right is called Vogue World colour name Active, from Solomans its their own Suzie Wilks range.
The bottom one is from Tuftmaster called Spring ridge colour name Galena. Here is a link I have just found it has a better photo of the pattern. http://www.tuftmastercarpets.com.au/ind ... Itemid=45# I will try and find a link for the other one Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Which carpet ? 6Feb 22, 2009 7:41 am If you like both I would pick the cheaper one. No sense spending the extra $$ on the capet when you can allocate it elsewhere! Re: Which carpet ? 7Feb 22, 2009 11:08 am Ah that's why I liked the bottom one - we were tossing up between Spring Ridge and the one we ended up getting (Augusta Lane - is similar to the other one - maybe you should check it out, might not be as expensive if you prefer the look of the other one?) Re: Which carpet ? 8Feb 22, 2009 12:03 pm I like the one at the bottom too, no specific reason, but better to have spare cash to spend on your suite Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Which carpet ? 9Feb 23, 2009 8:21 pm There can be a difference in the quality of theSolution Dyed Nylons.
It can be at a molecular level and it can make all the difference. (6.6 as against a 6 nylon) A 6.6 (said as six six nylon) will perform better than a 6 nylon. Some will have added protection of a flourochemical (like teflon) as well. Some may even have a dye blocker. Another thing is the pile density. Both can look similar but have vastly different amounts of pile. If it is in a bedroom it won't make a lot of difference but on stairs it will show up fairly early. Don't rely on the warranty too much. It's not until you try to make a claim that you will find out how limited they can be. Other than that, if you don't intend to give it too hard a life, then you may be better of with the furniture as well. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Re: Which carpet ? 10Feb 23, 2009 8:49 pm Thanks Col Nation
This is what it said about the cheaper better carpet. Is this a good one? Fine Gauge, Low Profile, Textured Patterned Loop Pile fibre: 100% B.C.F. Solution Dyed Nylon Gauge: 2.54 mm (1/10") Pile Weight: 18 oz/yd Primary Backing: Heat Stabilised Woven Polypropylene Secondary Backing: Woven Jute Width: 3.66 Metres A.C.C.S Grade: REHDS - Residential Extra Heavy Duty & Stairs CLDS - Contract Light Duty & Stairs Product Features: Increased thermal and acoustic comfort Superior appearance retention when correctly maintained Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Which carpet ? 12Feb 24, 2009 6:24 am Looks can be decieving. This type of yarn has a lot of air space. The way it is spun gives a thicker looking yarn bundle with less fibres, it is very squishy for want of a better term.
The pile, being a nylon, won't wear out. This is one of the reasons they give a 15 or more year "wear" warranty. They know that in 15 years there will still be the same amount of pile. It may look flat and worn and tired at 15 years, but it will still have the same amount of pile. The stain waranty offered by some is pretty limited. They qualify it with statements such as what Taffy has included ("Superior appreance retention when correctly maintained"). This means you must have it maintained according to A/NZ Standard 3733. It must be regularly cleaned by a professional carpet cleaner or there is no warranty. You must vaccum regualrly in accordance with the standard, You must spot clean using the correct treatments. But they are not very specific with these. Failure to do any of these can result in the waranty being voided. The warranties do not cover abuse. So if you tell them you have a house full of stains that won't clean out they will tell you that that is abuse and that is not covered under thier warranty. Sorry to sound so negative. This is just some of the issues that are not clearly spelt out by the sales people or the manufacturer. A 15 year warranty sounds really good, but it doesn't always mean what you would expect. In saying that, if you are careful and do maintain your carpet, there is no reason that it will not look good for many years. You will probably want to re-decorate beefore it wears out. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Thank you.
