Are you sure you don't do any work in Sydney? Unfortunately things like this do take some time to filter through to the mainstream 'market' You could contact Boral to see if they could put you on to anyone or try the NSW assoc. of timber floor installers (can't remember the exact name) Re: How would you order and install your solid timber floor? 43Mar 02, 2009 11:34 am eho Beast, that floor looks great! I know this is often called "overlay" and in most places it is described as being shorter lengths (under 2.4m) for ease of transport and apartment installation. But my builder swears that he can get a 12mm product that comes in long lengths like 19mm. I can appreciate I do not need to span joists and so the 19mm seems like more thickness than I can ever use. And obviously 12mm is going to be cheaper. Just wonder if I am being spun a line.
Like others here I have been leaning towards purchasing the timber independently and hiring a separate specialist to lay and finish. I really appreciate that other here are struggling with these decisions. It's a big commitment, that's for sure. Blackbutt floor 45Mar 11, 2009 12:00 pm Beast your floor is beautiful! What finish is that? We had cypruss pine with polyurothane in our previous house, and I hoped for a different finish this time on our blackbutt, but husband loves the very shiny finish, and I love it too so that's what we'll be having. On another note, we've been told the concrete needs to have a moisture barrier, painted on I think, before the timber goes on. Have you heard of that? Just wonder if I am being spun a line. the 12mm overlay is not any cheaper than 19mm, its main benefit is it can be laid over 12mm ply thus reducing the overall height - 19mm T&G must be laid over 15mm ply minimum. Hurford Hardwoods produce a 130mm x 15mm secret-nail wide board.
