We are going to be building the Regent 23 with PD. Catergory 1 carpet comes included, but we don't like the carpet. To upgrade to Cat 2 with Underlay would cost $4,500 and to Cat 3 and upgraded underlay $5,100.
We are friends with a carpet layer and he will do the house for under $3,000 with good quality carpet and great underlay.
As the carpet is automaticly included in the PD price promotions, we cannot "delete" it from the contract. If we rip up the new carpet to put in our own, how easy is it to sell the carpet we wont be using and what kind of price would we get per metre squared? Any ideas? And is ebay the best way to sell it?

Have you tried explaining your position to the builder? As long as the carpet is not already down, you may well be able to negotiate upgrades to other things such as tiles or appliances etc. This leaves a little of his expected carpet profit in his pocket, and a little bit back in yours. You will need to be honest with him, without mentiong price.Just tell him you have a friend who is a carpet layer and has some stock you like better and he can install it at your leisure.Don't expect to get back every carpet dollar, that would leave a bad taste in some builder's mouth, and they will dig their heels in.
Just a carpet layer's opinion!
