Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 20, 2009 7:21 pm After some advice about timber species. I have 4 dogs, which means 16 paws & 64 nails that will be careering across the floors. Oh, & not to mention a parinoid (but very tolerant) OH who hates scratches on floors.
So two questions for you, if you could pls advise; 1. Which species/hardness rating should I be looking at? 2. What finish should be applied, & how often is it likely to need to be redone (OK, so that's 2 Q's in 1.) Am looking at a satin finish, not so fond of gloss. Thanks very much, in advance Re: Luke - in here PLEASE! 2Jan 21, 2009 8:18 am If you have that many dogs that will be inside and don't want scratches I would not be putting down a timber floor - otherwise keep the dogs outside.
If set on a timber floor I'd be finishing it with an oil-based polyurethane with a hardener additive. Unfortunately the higher gloss finishs are harder. As far as timber species stay away from the Ash species/mixes such as Tassie Oak and Vic Ash.
