Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 13, 2009 5:09 pm I am leaning towards 600x600 polished porcelain tiles for the floor, but someone at work said b e carefull with these as the bigger the tile the more chance of them cracking if there is movement in the house, especially with the thinner grout lines.
Has anyone heard of this being more a possibility than with the smaller tiles? The only issue he mentioned with the larger tiles was the need for a perfectly flat surface, whereas you can get away with a bit of unevenness with smaller tiles. Craig Re: Porcelain tiles cracking! 5Jan 15, 2009 6:24 pm The grout is generally the weakest part of the floor so it will therefore crack before a tile will. With the larger format tiles you have less grout to crack so there is more chance of a tile cracking.
However, as noted in the other replies there are other important factors as well, proper preperation of the floor and flexible glue will greatly reduce any problems.
