What would you choose - Standard with more features or the Select which is more even. And Why?
Thanks

Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 12, 2009 6:41 pm HI, I'm new here. I've just received quotes for timber flooring to go in our house for both standard and select blackbutt 130mm - the standard is cheaper and this renovation is starting to add up!
What would you choose - Standard with more features or the Select which is more even. And Why? Thanks ![]() Re: Blackbutt select or standard? 2Jan 12, 2009 7:04 pm Hi mrselliot - welcome!
Did the people who provided you the quote describe what additional features the standard has? I've actually got a blackbutt wooden floor which I LOVE to bits. It's actually part of the reason why I have no garden! I'm not sure which type it is though. It does have quite a bit of colour variation but overall I'd say the medium colour is dominant. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll post some pictures of the more unusual areas which might help you decide. Fence, paving, retaining wall - CHECK! Still so much more to do..... Re: Blackbutt select or standard? 3Jan 12, 2009 7:36 pm Thanks Bella09. I've been to look at the Standard and I quite like the features, but just wondering if I should go for the more featured look or more even look (the Select). There is also a Blackbutt 'feature' flooring too, but it really has lots of 'feature' to it!
I would love it if you could post me some photos of your flooring. Thanks so much for your reply. Re: Blackbutt select or standard? 4Jan 13, 2009 8:44 am We've just had Tassie Oak floor installed, and there were 3 grades available. We went for the middle option, as DH felt that the "Select" grade almost looked fake b/c it had no natural grain feature in any of the boards. I guess it depends on what your preference is (as well as your budget!! ![]() Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Blackbutt select or standard? 5Jan 13, 2009 8:48 am I can't have floorboards, but if I could I'd go for the standard. I think the features and character is what makes wood so appealing in the first place. ![]() Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Blackbutt select or standard? 6Jan 13, 2009 11:05 am Thank you everyone for your replies. ![]() Thats a good point Joles, features and character make wood very appealing, so I think the middle ground (the standard) is the way to go! Petal, your comment about the select being fake is just what I want to avoid. I dont want it to look like a floating floor ie manufactured, I want it to look like real wood. I cant believe I am going to choose the cheaper option too - that's almost a first in this renovation. ![]() I'm glad I found this forum. I must make my way through the rest of it and see what other handy tips I can find... What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 2952 ![]() |
