Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 11, 2009 7:50 am We were looking at using the Formica laminate flooring product for the ground level of our house. Now I have realised that it is not waterproof. I have two little kids who spill water constantly and also I am very clumsy in the kitchen and always spill and drop water everywhere.
So my question is this.... what flooring product is waterproof? What can I use a standard mop and bucket on and if I have unknown spills what will survive?? I'm in Sydney so it needs to be a product available here. Thanks! Re: Waterproof floor? 2Jan 11, 2009 8:46 am gday,
firstly glad you are steering away from laminate ! Although the formica ones are some of the better out there, they are still adversely affected by water ! What i would highly recommend, and do to everyone who asks me about flooring for kitchens (and bathrooms) is vinyl planks. The two major brands being karndean and amtico. They are planks of vinyl glued to the floor so that water/spills wont affect them. google karndean for lots more information ! Your other option is a sheet vinyl and have it glued down. But id only look at this second to planks. Re: Waterproof floor? 3Feb 11, 2009 5:29 pm bonnie0715 I like pine plywood, dose anyone know is it waterproof? There is no such thing as water-proof plywood, though any ply that has an 'A Bond' stamp uses a water-proof adhesive. Exactly right.Planks are perfect.Check each products wear layer thickness, try and get something with a commercial rating, but DON'T forget to clean and then SEAL the product.99% of vinyl buyers don't and then complain about never getting the floor clean,or grit between the planks. Just a carpet layer's opinion! Re: Waterproof floor? 5Feb 22, 2009 3:06 pm We are considering the Karndean flooring as we also have two small kids who make a huge mess, plus I am also a bit messy. The waterproof factor was what did it for us.
Does anyone else have any opinions on it, anyone used it and have pics of what it looks like down in a house? We've seen it out at restaurants and shops and thank it looks great.
