Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 05, 2009 9:53 am I have an area of about 7 sq metres that I need sanded and polished. I've had a quote from an outfit that charge $35/sqm but they have a minimum charge of 15 sqm. Do you think this is standard? i.e. will i be able to find someone to do it for just the amount required?
Thanks for any thoughts - recommendations also welcome. Re: Floor sanding - minimum cost? 2Jan 05, 2009 6:20 pm I think you will find a minimum charge is standard, although that may vay from one to another. cheers Col Nation For information on caring for wool and other carpet and upholstery go to www.woolsafe.com.au Re: Floor sanding - minimum cost? 3Jan 05, 2009 8:54 pm trade price is $22 per meter for sand and polish on new floors. I think is is $27 per meter.for old floors. However your question is more about minimumm and my answers may not help. If it is a small area why not try doing it yourself?? Re: Floor sanding - minimum cost? 4Jan 06, 2009 6:02 am Thanks for replies. These are definitely OLD floors, but $27 sqm is a bit cheaper than what I was quoted. Yes, I guess I was trying to find out if I was expecting too much to get the 7 square metres done for what that would cost (rather than a minimum) but it is interesting to hear what the trade cost is.
Any recommendations for sanders in Sydney? Re: Floor sanding - minimum cost? 5Jan 06, 2009 7:42 am I am having mine done by a guy I used 8 years ago, he charged $20 a metre then and he charges $25 a metre now. His work is great. He is friendly and reliable.
However, I think that is very cheap these days. I looked around and the average is $30 a metre. I think you will find someone that will do that small area but you will just have to get on the phone and 'let your fingers do the walking'. The bummer for them is that when it comes to laying down the poly it will only take about an hour to do it, then they cannot do a second coat until the next day. Basically they will come to your house on those days for an hour at at time, which could interrupt any other full days they have somewhere else. My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW.
