Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 19, 2008 7:32 pm I'm wondering what everyone's thought are regarding Karndean Vs Tiles. This will be for everywhere excluding bedrooms and theatre where my Cav Brem will be going.
Wooden flooring is not an option because of my dogs..... I considered it but DeeElle's nightmare nipped that thought in the bud. I have a tile that is perfect and some Karndean that is perfect.... just not sure. I know there are advantages and disadvantages to both.... what are everyone's thoughts? * if you drop stuff it's less likely to break * it's soft underfoot, so legs and back don't get tired when standing in the kitchen * it's more slip-resistant. I know you can put coatings on tiles, but I'd rather not have to re-coat all the time. * it won't show marks as much * it's warmer underfoot I've got a few types in mind, but I'll make the final decision once I see how the interiors look when we're close to finishing. Have you considered slab heating if you are having tiles? Very warm under foot. As for the Tile verses Karndean, both look really nice Put it this way, I would go for tiles with under floor heating. If not, the karndean flooring would feel much warmer and easier to live with for your family. Actually....I like the Tile better, there you go Mrs B Re: Karndean Vs Tiles 11Nov 20, 2008 6:53 pm We are doing a mix of Karndean and Tiles
Tiles are very cold esp here in Melbourne but we are still going with it in entry/passage/kitchen/Family/Laundry. Mainly because it is practical and very easy to clean with a steam mop. Living Areas/Home Theatre/Study would be Karndean. If that is taken care of Karndeen is a great product. You might want to look into the top grade, making it commercial grade, that’s the best. Tiles…..I have what I call the “fault line from hell” in my slab. It started in the toilet and has travelled across my hall, and into my kitchen. On last inspection….(just now getting a scotch ) the thing is still travelling across my kitchen floor, cracking every tile along the way! There’s a new rubber based glue now for tiles, its great it allows movement of the slab and stops the cracking of tiles. Two totally different looks. So I guess it depends what you want. if your looking for a hard floor head to a karndean dealer to check em out ! oh and our amtico floor aswell, same type of product with a much thicker wear layer ! but also many $$$. When looking at other brands ask about the wear layer thickness ! when getting your quote for vinyl tile, get the material and labour itemised. Ive heard of some insain amounts of money being asked by vinyl layers latley, and this might help in getting a good price ! photos are not too good as in a packed shop you cant stand back for a good photo, and we have lots of light coming in the front windows.. I could be Rollergirl from Boogie Nights! Thanks for the pics Steveo. I'm really doing my head in over flooring..... there's two Karndean types I'm looking at, both in the Da Vinci range. But my tile option is perfect as well.... and my secret desire is for floorboards.... but it's not realistic! I have a while to make a decision on this. But with mum.... the softness and warmth underfoot of the Karndean is a big factor.... Stupid old woman! I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. these were laid by the store i work for either 7 or 8 years ago. i know i had only just started. I was there to replace the carpet becuase it was worn out (laid at the same times as these planks) but besides badly needing a clean, they still look fantastic. the house has 2 adults and 4 kids, and this area is between the main door, main living area and kitchen so you can imagine the traffic.. ! i know 7 years isint that long, but they honestly havnt started to wear. These will be there for easily 25 years unless someone gets sick of them.
