I've found this gold mine of information and would really appreciate some advice on my little problem. I'm in the process of doing a renovation and extension to the house and just ripped out the existing flooring (carpet and slate) and realised we've got Tassie Oak in most of the rooms except for one which has the yellow tongue floor board. The conditions varied as house was affected by termites a while back. I have decided to put solid timber flooring (80/19) throughout the house apart from the bathrooms and bedrooms. I've talked to a few installers/suppiers and some said I will need to put plywood down on the existing tas oak and some said not. Most of the installers I've talked to been out to see the job and they are giving me conflicting advices. Another installer have just said it is not necessary to do so. He said it is because he will be using glueing the whole length of the boards and secret nailed at intervals. I don't want to spend more but would rather do it properly is this is needed.
