Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 28, 2008 3:52 pm Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to say I wish I found this forum ages ago it's fantastic!! Me and my partner are renovating our house in Rosebery in the eastern suburbs of sydney. Must post some pics! Down stairs we want Blackbutt floating wooden floor, originally I wanted proper timber floor boards but due to our floor being so unlevel and not having thousands and thousands to have the floor raised to sort out the bumps I am going engineered wooden floors. After much research I found Boral silkwood came up alot. When we went into the flooring shop near us the salesman is telling not to go for boral as it's very expensive go for Readyflor as its the same and alot cheaper. Please help im torn in too. I have been into several flooring shops and the samples are so tiny. I got done with our last place we got a brand called elsyum ( sorry if thats spelt wrong) and they had a big peice in the flooring showroom in Auburn (blackbutt) and it looked Lovely when they installed I was shocked there where pink bits of wood through out it! It wasn't the company's fault it was the showrooms they had purposly only used the wood that was as close to select grade blackbutt as possible in there 1.5m x 1.5m display. My carpenter frine said the pink was not blackbutt and has been put in to cut down on the amount of black butt being used. Sorry to be a pest but does anyone have photo's of the sillwood in Blackwood and the readyflor so I can better idea what the overal finish will look like. Many Thanks in advance!! Have a look at Rikster's thread - they have Boral Silkwood and were not happy with the product at all. I can't offer much advice as we're going for tile. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Boral Silkwood or Readyflor cant decide please help! Pic inc 3Oct 28, 2008 4:27 pm Thanks for the quick reply Amanda. When we did the blackbutt in our last apartment the people next door had tiles and invited us in to have a look and it was beautiful how thay had done it. I thought we should have done that but I am so scared of getting a bad tiler!! Your place sounds like it's going to be lovely when it's done!! x Re: Boral Silkwood or Readyflor cant decide please help! Pic inc 4Oct 28, 2008 4:39 pm Rosebery is such a great area (lucky they didn't build that huge church nearby - a parking and traffic nightmare!)
I used to work nearby at the corner of Botany Rd and Gardeners. I still miss the great turkish pizza near there After 4 years - we're in! Re: Boral Silkwood or Readyflor cant decide please help! Pic inc 5Oct 29, 2008 2:44 am Hi Amanda,
Check out Armourfloor by Big River Timbers www.bigrivertimbers.com.au We shopped around and found they had a better product. We are having spotted gum although their photos on the website is nothing like the real thing. I have a sample of their blackbutt as it is similar to their spotted gum but a bit on the lighter side. We spoke to Peter at Big River Timbers and he was more then helpful. Let me know if you want a photo of their blackbutt sample. Re: Boral Silkwood or Readyflor cant decide please help! I hope I am not to late to respond to your post. I to went around and around in the floating/ engineered floor Market. Lucky for me I decided against the Elysium flooring due to the pink tinge. I also read somewhere that the boards often warp over time I ended up going with Readyflor and I love it - looks wonderful and feels wonderful. Additionally it feels really solid and "sounds" great when walked on. most people think it's a solid floor. ReadyFlor also has a 25year guarentee I initially wanted blackbutt, but finally decided on Oak as it was lighter in colour. The only downside with the Oak is it's soft so high heels leave little dents in it. Eventually this will just become part of the look I hope I have attached a couple of pictures for you to see the wonderful finish Hope this helps Vanessa Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts.
