Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 25, 2022 2:15 pm Good day, we’re looking to hire a tiler to tile our porch and alfresco areas which are currently just cement slabs. We’ve completed our concrete aprons and have them sit 15mm above those areas to be tiled. Do those areas needs to be waterproofed (similar to that of a balcony 🧐)? We’ve been told cement is porous and can easily absorb water. There would be a gap b/w tiles and apron so would that be caulked or something? Appreciate any input Re: Tiling alfresco and porch 2Oct 25, 2022 3:12 pm Good forward thinking on the heights. As to waterproofing, nah no need. But make sure the area being tiled has a screed that falls away towards the concrete path/apron. You dont want water pooling in the alfresco. Gap between the path and the slab would usually be caulked. I assume the concreter used ableflex between the path and the slab? If so, just need to rip the perforated section off an caulk after you tile. Dark matter scientist, can breathe underwater, mind reader and can freeze matter just by willing it. Trust me, its in my sig. Re: Tiling alfresco and porch 3Oct 26, 2022 1:29 pm Noname Good forward thinking on the heights. As to waterproofing, nah no need.
