Uniclick/Quickstep Flooring Query

Hi all,

We have decided to put a laminate flooring throughout the main areas of our house. We will be doing the install ourselves after handover and wanted to hear from others their experiences or advise on how to prepare and carry out the job.

We've been told that we simply lay out plastic on the concrete slab and cut and lay the laminate on top with no glueing needed. I'm wondering if we have any underlay options and whether we should be prepping the concrete before we start?

Hi

I've done it a few times and the only thing I can say is be precise with your measurements and cuts.

You have a choice of underlays but its all thin stuff.

The underlay is a barrier between the boards and the concrete so you don't need to prep anything.

Thanks for your reply jaypee. So I'm asuming then that there's no acoustic underlay to limit or reduce the "clip clopping" sound as you walk on it? We are currently living in a rental with real timber floors and love the sounds but in the display centres have found the laminate floorboards to not sound as nice.

This isn't a major concern but just something we're wondering.

Hi there,

The underlay is a slight noise reducer, although you are right, the cliplock flooring does have a DRUM we call it, more so than the real timber floors.
The underlay is also a protective skin in case there is ever any moisture in the slab.
Use an underlay not the plastic, for sound reduction.

Jaypee is right about being careful of your cutting and measuring, as wastage on this product can prove expensive.
