The synthetic carpet in the bedrooms was impossible to keep clean. It attracted every mark, stain, etc... that kids could possibly make. Wool mix IMHO won hands down. I was thinking about changing it again. But I'll leave it for a few days. Next ones really good IMO Steve Re: Wool or Synth Carpet 47Oct 24, 2008 9:24 pm House-To-Be I had to go to Brooklyn today (didn't even know there was a Brooklyn in Melb!) to pick something up so I decided to go to Western Distributors/Western Carpet Distributors. After speaking to two different sales people I'm leaning towards a solution dyed Nylon. Why? Because both of the sales people told me to stay away from wool due to my DH and youngest being Asthmatic. Asthma wasn't something I thought of There was a wool carpet there that I loved, will look into the Asthma thing tonight. Welcome to the West H2B You must have had the same sales person as we did at Western Distributors - we went for the nylon one for exactly the same reasons. (DH has asthma) PLus it was on special. Re: Wool or Synth Carpet 48Oct 25, 2008 8:36 am Thanks Donuts At this stage I'm still thinking but still need to do a bit more homework. What did you go for plush/twist/loop?
Re: Wool or Synth Carpet 50Oct 30, 2008 4:58 pm House-To-Be Steveo I'm back......wondering what your thoughts are on Quest Carpets? I spent yesterday afternoon at another carpet showroom and am now tossing up between the Beaulieu level loop cut and a Quest level loop cut. Both are solution dyed nylons. I'm leaning more towards the Quest this morning as was DH. The Quest carpet seems more compact (??) and maybe less likely to flatten over time (my inexpert opinion). The quest is also cheaper and a saving of almost $2,000 which is nice. They both come in under budget so $$ aren't an issue in deciding. I guess when I weigh up the guarantee, rating etc etc they seem to be about the same. I'm going for a Godfrey Hirst Shag in the HT from their Nuovo range in a dark colour called Carbone. Pic below shows the carpet but it's a different colour never had anything to do with quest ! only ever heard the name, we dont sell it through our store.. but as i say with the stickers on the back and looking at the samples etc you should be able to tell ok ! but at 2k cheaper sure sounds like a good deal ! that godfrey hirst shag is awesome stuff ! i cant understand why we dont sell more of it ! ive done it in a few home theaters, sunken lounge rooms etc. its so cool. i put it in my sisters room, heres some pics of that.. i cant remember what color its called, but look at the pile height difference between it and the kingsgate town (school carpet!) we have in the hallway. we put it on dunlop ultimate 14mm (13mm?) foam and it feels fantastic! http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo331/steveophotos/30102008224Medium.jpg http://i389.photobucket.com/albums/oo331/steveophotos/30102008223Medium.jpg Re: Wool or Synth Carpet 51Oct 30, 2008 6:30 pm House-To-Be Thanks Donuts At this stage I'm looking at "Augusta Lane" but still need to do a bit more homework. What did you go for plush/twist/loop? They gave me builders rates which knocked $10 off the price $22pm for underlay and $25pm for laying. Plus I loved this Godfrey Hirst shag for the HT Sorry H2B I missed this one before! The one we went for is a 100% nylon and it looks a bit like a sisal, so I guess that means it is a loop?? I asked Ash about it a long time ago and he gave it a general thumbs up (I think he wasn't that impressed but I am happy enough with it given the price we are paying!) Will have to take a pic of the sample one of these days. Funny, carpet has been one of those things I haven't really obsessed over, I just picked one one day and haven't really questioned it since then! Unlike everything else which I seem to have chosen, re-chosen and second-guessed myself a hundred times over That shag pile looks beautiful! Re: Wool or Synth Carpet 52Oct 30, 2008 6:37 pm I'm wondering if I could get that shag made into a rug.... it would be ideal in DS's play room. That will be tiled. He's sort of past trains and matchbox cars... more lounging around watching DVDs playing PS and stuff like that. Looks ideal....
Toni, could you PM me some details re price etc? And steveo... is it easy enough to make a piece of carpet into a rug? Jo Oh..... and thanks to Petal I found the most perfect, perfect beautiful Cavalier Bremworth 100% wool carpet that I'm going to use in the build! Those of you that have been around will remember my difficulty in matching a charcoal carpet to a charcoal tile. This carpet will elope with my tile... they are perfect for each other. I'm so excited about the carpet.... I've been carrying the sample around and smelling it. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. And steveo... is it easy enough to make a piece of carpet into a rug? yeah easy as to get made into a rug! we sell that stuff for $230 odd a metre laid so probably $200 supply only, then the overlockers charge around $5 a metre around the perimeter of the rug ! so for $450 odd you'd have a 3.6 x 2 mtr rug ! Donuts, would love to see a pic of your carpet. I think the prices at West3rn were pretty good. The shag there is $23 plm cheaper than F0wles. Jo, The shag was $203. Great that you've found your carpet, I saw the pic in your house thread. It looks great! Well done!
