Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 26, 2021 8:10 pm Hi I am in the process of deciding what type of flooring goes in my new build. I don't want any carpet because of dust, I don't like floating floors because you can't mop them properly, I do like tiles and might have to tile the whole house but it is pricey and the grout always gets dirty. I was thinking is anyone familiar with something hard like in a hospital floor that won't move but is for residential? Is that vinyl laminate that is glued down? Every vinyl that I have ever seen slips around over time but is there a super sturdy solution that stays put and I can mop without worries and is cheaper than tiles? Thanks Re: Is there a better solution to floor tiles? What do hospi 3Jun 26, 2021 9:27 pm I’m not sure - is it hard and glued down? I’ll look into it as I’ve never known the name. Thanks Re: Is there a better solution to floor tiles? What do hospi 4Jun 27, 2021 7:50 am I recall it was used in school floors a lot. I just googled "what are hospital floors made of" and results say sheet vinyl. Flooring stores sell in planks but you should be able to get sheet vinyl done somewhere too. Thanks I’ll ask the local flooring store Re: Is there a better solution to floor tiles? What do hospi 6Jun 27, 2021 6:25 pm Hospitals use sheet vinyl that is glued down and all the joints and seams are welded. It makes for a very durable finish. Loose lay vinyl planks that are used in a domestic setting are also very durable. Some are designed to be layed on bare concrete but most manufacturers recommend using pressure sensitive glue that means the planks are lightly adhered to the floor but can be easily removed if a plank needs to be replaced. Then there are hybrid planks that clip together like floorboards but are made from vinyl.
