Hello all!
Can I secret nail & glue 125mm * 19mm raw solid timber on battens over a concrete slab? Thanks.

Is this kinda what you are after? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Secret nails battens on concrete slab 5Jul 05, 2021 8:35 pm Thanks. That's exactly what I am after. The issue is that I am using a 125mm board, and I heard you should not secret nail wide board (wider than 80/85mm, I forgot), they should be top nailed. If you really want to secret nail a wide board, it should be done on plywood over concrete slab rather than battens over concrete. But my installer claims it should be fine to install the 125mm board on the battens over the slab, so I am a bit worried. I'm not a builder or flooring specialist, but will observe that even with our 80mm very old re-milled boards that were secret nailed, we do have some cupping and bowing in places. Nothing too dramatic, but I suspect with wider boards, when the fixing are more widely spaced, there is even more opportunities for deformation. Will you at least be gluing the boards to the battens as you nail them down? Re: Secret nails battens on concrete slab 8Jul 06, 2021 9:21 am sts64 And I assume the cupping and bowing went away after a while? No, it's still there…but as I said, only in some places and not too dramatic. I think it will only go away when we re-sand and re-polish the floors in 20 years time. The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5152 yep, clearly mark where the infloor heating pipes are before drilling or nailing 1 6057 |
