Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 06, 2008 8:33 am Just wondering if I am being 'done' in the quotes I am receiving...
I'm getting prices for supply & install of standard grade 80mm solid blackbutt timber floorboards finished with a water based finish (over the top of existing timber floorboards) to an apartment in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. We are removing the existing floor covering (carpet) ourselves. I understand the timber supply should cost about $60 / sq m and I was estimating about another $60 / sq m total for installation, sanding, polishing, finishing etc. I realise there may be some add on due to specifics of delivery issues etc but am I being unreasonable in expecting the quotes to come in at around $120 sq m all up? Any recommendations of contractors/ tradespeople would be appreciated! Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 2Oct 06, 2008 6:38 pm A little bit pricey for standard 80mm blackbutt. You should be able to get it to $50 - $55 sq. metre Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 3Oct 07, 2008 4:48 pm $120 per sqm, supply, lay, sand and polish would be almost spot on price for Tassie oak but im not sure what extra costs blackbutt would incurr for supply. Im guessing it would be an extra $5-$10 per sqm so you may be looking at $130 per sqm. Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 4Oct 07, 2008 6:50 pm The tassie oak in 85mmx19mm would be a little dearer in the same grade than blackbutt 80x19mm Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 5Oct 07, 2008 7:34 pm Dukekamaya The tassie oak in 85mmx19mm would be a little dearer in the same grade than blackbutt 80x19mm From memory the Tassie oak and also Kempas flooring is the cheapest in select grade at roughly $45 per sqm. That is cheaper than the Blackbutt you quoted. Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 6Oct 07, 2008 8:48 pm I'm not sure if we're comparing apples with apples now you have mentioned the Kempas.
Come to think of it, I was going off 130mm boards in Tassie Oak that I quoted last week Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 7Oct 13, 2008 3:22 pm Just wondering whether 13mm would be cheaper than 19mm? How much would it cost for supply and installation of 13mm Sydney blue gum? Sorry to hijack! Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 8Oct 13, 2008 4:09 pm Yes 12mm or 13mm is cheaper than 19mm and supply would be about $50 per sqm depending on grade quality. Laying depends on the surface you are laying on but labour can range between about $27 per sqm to $40 per sqm. Then sanding and polishing would be about $22 per square meter for 3 coats.
All those prices are just a rough guide to give you an idea. Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 9Oct 13, 2008 8:36 pm Thanks!
I spoke to one timber company and they quoted me $33 per sqm2 for natural grade 13mm sydney blue gum. Is this a good price. How much more expensive is select grade to natural grade? It will be a concrete slab subfloor. I asked him for the price of installation which included 12mm plywood, labour, sand and polish and they said $133. I'm not sure whether he included the supply of the timber with this price or just the installation. What do you think of this price? It's quite expensive right? Thanks Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 10Oct 13, 2008 9:16 pm The difference in price between the select grade and standard grade in the 85x12mm Sydney blue gum would be about $5 per sqm. $33 per sqm for supply seems a decent price but the labour seems a bit much at $100 per sqm to lay, sand and polish. Re: Costs of supply & install blackbutt timber floorboards 11Oct 16, 2008 9:45 am We are in Sydney Northern Beaches and we have a great guy who lets you source/buy the timber yourself and has quoted me $40 to lay onto a concrete slab (including supply of battens, materials etc) and $23 to polish (both per square meter).
He has fixed/polished our house here (reno) and did a new floor for a relative which were all fantastic, super efficient and most importantly on time (very unusual here) If you want more info please PM me. Cheers Surfshak That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8648 Hi All New to the forum and looking for some advice, has anyone else renovated an old miners cottage in or around Ballarat and been able to identify the flooring?
