Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 04, 2008 7:39 pm When we moved out of our old place, OH MY GOD the severity of the dents and "holes" in the carpet caused by our heavy and long term positioned furniture!!!!!
I fear our beautiful new carpet will be ruined for this same reason, and it will decrease the sale price of our apartment whenever we eventually sell it years down the track. Is there any way at all to help with this? Obviously there're those things you put under heavy legs of sofa suites and stuff, but we did that at our old place and it did nothing. I can't believe how incredibly deep each dent/hole was!!! At our new place, while we were still moving certain items of furniture around, I was a bit concerned to see that even after just a week of having say, the couch in one position (which was only temporary), when we moved it, there were fairly noticeable dents. They've since faded a bit, but it's been another week and they're still there. *fearful* Is there anything else we can do? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Any way to stop/help deep furniture dents in carpet? 2Oct 04, 2008 7:44 pm Bar moving your furniture around ……often, there’s not a lot you can do.
It happens all the time. If you have nice spongy underlay…..even better for the dents! Put your furniture there, and forget about it. I always suggest putting left over pieced of carpet under the legs of furniture, but you will still get dents. Don’t look. I've also heard that ironing over a cloth (with steam?) works. Not a single thing. The carpet stunk of chemicals and looked ultra clean, but the dents all remained unchanged.
Oh well. Too bad for the sale price, and we won't notice it until we move unless we move our furniture around (which we won't be doing), so...meh. How the hell did I become a senior member!? They successfully prevented her furntiure from leaving dents in her carpet :
Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The sofa foot for example would sit in the cup ;& the prickly bottom side would sit on the carpet. Absolutely no damage was done to the carpet. Problem though is that I haven't seen them around for years. Mum was fanatical about them under everything on the carpet! Ours were deep brown…..very attractive. I picked one up but saw it was expensive so put it back down. I may go back for them if they actually work. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Any way to stop/help deep furniture dents in carpet? 8Oct 17, 2008 7:04 pm its all about the weight distribution over the area thats touching the ground ! the bigger the area touching the ground, the more the weight is spread out, the less weight is squashing the carpet.
those cup ones from bunnings work pretty well for sofas and light furniture. but for big heavy bookshelves cupboards etc id say you should be getting some sheets of 6mm mdf, cut them down to the size of the base and sliding under them. that way the weight is spread out over the whole sheet. You can slide it under so its level with the front and you wont know its there. those really deep marks are nearly impossible to get out.
