Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 04, 2011 12:17 am Hi We have just taken possession of a new home we have built and are very busy painting..... We have arranged carpet to be laid in the bedrooms and I am going to have a go at laying the laminate flooring myself in the living areas. My question is..... does it matter which happens first? I was going to get the carpet laid and then lay the laminate up to the join in the bedroom doorways ..... but the guy at the carpet place raised an eyebrow when I told him of this plan but seemed unsure when I quizzed him further. Should I do the laminate first... does it matter..... help!!!!! Any experience in this area greatly appreciated Re: Carpet and laminate floor - which one to lay first 2Mar 04, 2011 9:52 am Hello In my experience it is best to lay the flooring before the carpet, because the carpet guy can butt up tight against the flooring. Also remember to finish the flooring half way under doors, so when you close the door, on one side you only see the flooring and the other side you only see the carpet. Bamboo Flooring Perth - Simply Bamboo http://www.simplybamboo.com.au Re: Carpet and laminate floor - which one to lay first 3Mar 04, 2011 10:01 am I had my timber (engineered) layed first. The process creates quite a bit of dust when they trimmed all the boards and the architraves, and it was then walked EVERYWHERE! I didn't want this dust all over my new carpet! As Bamboo King suggests, it is much easier to fit carpet around timber. I had both organised and installed by the same company, and this was they way they did it too. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ...
