Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 18, 2008 4:23 pm Hi
I am just about to order floating timber floorbaords in either Sydney Blue Gum or Jatoba and was wondering where is the best place to buy them in Melbourne. Also I know Fowels sell a brand called Embelton and other places have Boral Silkwood range. What is better , is there much difference? Some come with underlay included is it important to have a certain type of underlay if so what is the best one to get? I feel there are a lot of people putting in floating floorboards but we dont have difinitve answers on these questions on the forum. Please someone in the know or whhas gone through the process of laying the floors in recent months or years give us a heads up on what is the best way to go about it and the tricks of the trade. Cheers Rowan Re: FINAL WORD ON TIMBER FLOATING FLOORBOARDS 2May 18, 2008 9:32 pm One tip I can give you is ......Dont put them in wet areas...including the kitchen.
Reason, if you have a major water spill i.e. a flood of water from the dishwasher, water will get under the floating floor boards. Also the floors are designed to "float" hence the name "floating floors" It may sound obvious, but if you have a heavy item like a fridge sitting on top of the floating floor... that part of the floor wont move and the rest of the floor will...guess what happens....the joins will open up. Leave a gap around the edges of the room which is covered by a moulding or skirting I have seen many many times floors layed incorrectly.
