But thick soft underlays are not so good at keeping the carpet installation in good condition. Lower more dense underlay like the Dunlop Excellay will perform much better, but be firmer under foot. Its better to choose a carpet with the softness and feel you are looking for, rather than relying on the underlay for that quality (although even the firmest underlay still adds comfort). Ash.
