What is the norm ?
In my old house, the drawn curtains - that pull across to either one side or both sides of the window, was not very wide. ie. the curtain drawer rod basically sat just on the edge of the architrave.
Now I am building the new house, and although no plaster is up yet, I am trying to think ahead - and it started me thinking...
Why hide part of the window when the curtains are opened... should not the width of the drapes take into account how much space it consumes crunched up when opened, and this would be allowed for in its width - ie. they should be 10cm or so wider..
Do you understand what I mean - I find it hard to put in words exactly what I am thinking...
If I have a 1.2m width window - and place a curtain rod the width of that window plu the architrave say - 1.3m - then when the drapes are open, they will still cover the side of the window as it is gathered together... Should it be say 1.45m to allow for that gathering and make the maximum opening possible through the window?
Am I crazy with this ? What would be the norm....
