Browse Forums Window Furnishings 1 Jan 03, 2015 10:52 am It's time to do something about putting window coverings up in our place. We currently have temporary paper blinds which has actually surprised me with how well they work for what they are. We don't have air con ( not planning on it) but you still get some stinkers of days (today). The cold is more of an issue at our place so we have good insulation etc. I was looking at cellular/honeycomb blinds but I'm now put off by 1) the cost and 2)figuring out what to do with the double sliding doors in our house (210x185cm & 210x 275cm) So I'm back to curtains, which is a shame as the clean simple look of blinds would suit the house. Also, it's rather dusty outside our place as there is a dirt track along the rear. And we have a mild asthmatic living with us. A few question: Anyone have any views? Can you do roller blinds with pelmets? Would that look stupid? What about the edges? Another thought I had was to use DIY roller blinds but tint the windows. I know little about window tinting. Re: Energy efficiency and window coverings 2Jan 03, 2015 5:04 pm Not sure this is the issue many say it is. But - using pelmets is an idea if you go for - say - verticals. We have a roller blind with a pelmet - looks good. Pelmets make verticals look 100%. Tinting can help - but remember that it can reverse at night - ie people can see in quite easily. Good old fashion drapes might be the answer - especially for cold. Perhaps the drapes and the lighter curtain outside them - ie against window. This is good for privacy when you want drapes right open. Lighter curtain can be half open or fully closed - but it is see-through. Re: Energy efficiency and window coverings 3Jan 03, 2015 5:49 pm Initially thoughts would be for a floor to ceiling double track s fold curtain. S fold as it is a contemporary look and in most cases can take up less fabric (ie reduce costs) than traditional pleated curtains. Sheer to the rear, that are washable, to provide some protection from the dust which would also provide protection to the front curtains of the dirt the dust would cause. The front curtain lined with 1 pass lining that provides thermal protection, for the cold but on the hot stinky days the heat, and also allowing filtered light to pass through. These would have to be custom made and the tracks are not the cheapest, so it maybe a compromise on product needs to be made if a comprimise on price has to be made. go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110525 Hi there I'm looking for a independent company for a expert report on my blinds ,sheers & plantation shutters I'm in Melbourne 0 9222 I have been looking into getting quotes for a reno I am doing shortly.
