Browse Forums Window Furnishings Re: WHY do people like VENETIAN BLINDS? Venetian vs Vertical 5Nov 01, 2014 4:12 pm It all comes down to personal taste. I, personally, can't stand verticals! They were in our old first house (not our doing), and the one room they were in honestly felt like an office. They were light grey with the white plastic chain 'stuff' holding them together...and they just did nothing for me, nor my decorating style. In a couple of the bedrooms, we had white timber venetians installed, and they looked so much better and 'homely'. We actually re-installed them in our new house in the kids bedrooms, which means they have lasted well over 13 years, and never had a problem with them. We also installed new light weight venetians in a couple of other parts of the house, and they blend in perfectly with the remaining windows (17) all done in white plantations. Each to their own decorating tastes. If we were all the same, all our houses would be boring! Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Venetian vs Vertical 6Nov 02, 2014 11:52 pm I've broken some venetians by being impatient and wanting to open the windows asap! That said, I've broken the chains off the verticals too when we used to live in a house with them. Then caused some folding creases in another house that didn't have the chains down the bottom of verticals but I was too much in a rush too... Lol I'm a rusher that's for sure. I agree it's subjective so my 2 cents is yes, venetians seem less practical than verticals.. But even the prettier looking venetians don't compare in looks as horizontal blinds. I love the look of plantation shutters but based on my history we'll be going curtains next house +1 each to their own --- Re: WHY do people like VENETIAN BLINDS? Another option that no1 has suggested yet.. Is no window coverings at all...? Hehe --- Re: WHY do people like VENETIAN BLINDS? Venetian vs Vertical 10Nov 03, 2014 8:00 am I've had venetians, verticals, Romans, rollers, curtains in a lot of houses over the years... They all have the their pluses and minuses. I've never struggled with venetians, except for the old metal slimline type which used to twist and contort. The verticals where the ones I suffered with most, the chains used to come off all the time. But even the chainless ones, the connectors at the top are very weak and prone to stuffing up regularly. As everyone has said, to each their own. To the OP, if you really hate venetians, just don't buy them... Be happy with your verticals and accept some people are happy with, and really like venetians.
