Browse Forums Window Furnishings 1 Sep 15, 2014 3:11 pm We're at that lovely stage of our build where we expect to have the keys within 4-8 weeks. We are doing our window furnishings after handover. The rear of our home faces 20 degrees west of north and in total, our open plan living area has 10.4m of sliding doors, two facing north and one facing east, into the Alfresco. We're building the Milano 2 by McDonald Jones Homes. Our painting has finished and I've yet to walk-through to see it for myself, but I already fear our home will be somewhat too clinical given our choices so far, which are mostly crisp white throughout. What little colours we have to work with are; * Walnut (dark brown) benchtops in Bathrooms * Truffle Lini matt (dark brown) underbench cupboards in kitchen What I'm 90% sure about so far are the following choices; Front bedroom 3 & 4 windows (south facing) 4 in total, 850 * 2080, double hung - White plantation shutters Our estate is full of this choice, I like the look and function of shutters so this is a no brainer for me. The floor-plan above is for a different facade, so the front windows are not as indicated. Bedroom 2 windows (west facing - shaded) 2 symetrical windows, 600 * 1500, awning - White venetians I like the function of venetians, especially on an awning window (wind-out) due to opening the window at the bottom - minimal blowing in the wind. Bathroom & Toilet windows (west facing - shaded) 1 * 1600 * 1500 (Bathroom), sliding - Dark brown venetians 1 * 600 * 1000 (Toilet), sliding - White venetians The idea here is that the walnut stone bench ties in with the dark brown venetians in a bathroom that should be well-lit. I'm worried about the Walnut bench standing out by itself with our White under bench cupboards, so I'm giving it a mate Internal architectural openings 1 * 2000w * 1455h - Dark brown venetians 1 * 1800w * 1255h - Dark brown venetians This is where I attempt to balance an abundance of white with the complete opposite! I know this can work well but it requires matching furniture to suit. Thankfully, dark brown is appealing to both of us. So that's what were confident in doing. What's remaining, which is largely up for debate, is the following; Media / Home Theatre strip windows 2 * 3010w * 400h (on top of each other) Master bedroom strip window 1 * 3010w * 300h (looks into alfresco, 1600 off ground) Master Bedroomsliding door (east) 2700mm three panel slider Kitchen sliding door (north) 3200mm three panel slider Dining sliding doors (north, alfresco) 2 * 3600mm three panel slider I'm willing to consider anything really, but I'm steering away from double-roller blinds simply due to the bulky mounting required, as well being the least easy to operate (IMO). I'm leaning towards shutters for all 3 strip windows, but I'd prefer total blockout in the Home Theatre, which makes me want curtains? I've seen both work. It's the sliding doors that really have me baffled. It's down to cellular, roller or panel. Cellular I know cellular has better thermal properties, which would definitely help for the northern facing sliding doors that have direct sun exposure. I'm not sure how well they would hold up in a breeze though, when fully withdrawn? from what I've seen, there is 2-4 inches of material remaining at the top of the opening. Panel By far the easiest to use. My only concern is that this blind has the largest non-retractable area, that being the width of one panel. Also, is this possible with 3600mm wide sliding doors? I'd imagine six panels at 600mm width each, making for quite a lot of trackwork on an already busy point (mesh screens external, glass doors, then panels, it might be half a foot thick of coverings?) Roller Cheap, functional, relatively easy to operate. What's not to like? I guess you could say they have no wow factor. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Re: Furnishing multiple sliding doors 2Oct 19, 2014 11:31 am I cant help with your question on window coverings, as I came here to try to workout what options we have. However, reading your post, I am wondering if you have your east and west back to front. If the front of the house is south, and the back north, then the left (ie mainbedroom) must be west, unless you have flipped you plan, and the plan you've attached is around the other way??? Good luck, and let us know what you end up going with. we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3579 We are looking for sliding doors which are 5 metres tall.
