Browse Forums Window Furnishings 1 Oct 18, 2013 1:04 pm We are starting to think of window furnishings and I am TOTALLY stuck ... I have no idea what to put thru the house I kind of have an idea of what I (don't) want, but don't know what options this leaves me Our house is - somewhat modern, but not over the ultra modern. - we have square set ceilings and the plain window surrounds to match However we have stayed with quite traditional colours - Our colours right thru the house are black and white. White walls, ceilings, cabinetry and doors. Black benches and a greyish coloured carpet in the bedrooms - The outside of the house is rendered a coffee and latte colour with black fascia, windows, roof and guttering. We feel the feature within the house will be the - Spotted Gum flooring thru out the lower floor of the house - Feature twin sided fire place (black surround) - The large frosted glass commercial doors. The look we are going for is - simple - classic - contemporary I know I don't like - plantation shutters, I love them on period homes but not my home - different furnishings on every window ... I would like something that can go thru most of the house (happy to have something different in bathrooms). But would like the front of the house to all look the same - I don't think I want the window furnishings to be a feature (I could be convinced otherwise on this, but right now I don't think I do) - In our current home with have roman blinds, I LOVE that open (part of the outside world) feeling with them all the way up In our home we have - lots of long narrow windows at the front of the house - 3 little 'box' windows in the family room - 2 large stacker doors in the family room Ideally I would like something that can go on all the windows PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEAS!!!!! Re: Window Furnishings ... Totally stuck for ideas 2Oct 21, 2013 4:57 pm I was thinking "roman blinds" and then saw you loved them Why not do those... and if you want to simplify the look for the long narrow windows then why not do them with them above the whole width of windows and dropping down over several at once? (And pulling up into their pelmet out of the way the rest of the time neat and tidy.) They'd go well with the stacker doors - because you could pull up a few or all of them. They are good on sliding doors for the same reason. Why are you thinking they wouldn't work in your new home? Re: Window Furnishings ... Totally stuck for ideas 3Nov 04, 2013 11:32 am Thanks for the response. We have had a lot of issues with our current roman blinds, the locking mechanism when putting them up and down. I guess maybe they might work, was just hoping for something simple and not really noticeable. The Romans I have currently are really nice and do stand out a fair bot, maybe if we went with plain fabric they would blend in more Re: Window Furnishings ... Totally stuck for ideas 4Nov 07, 2013 10:03 pm If you want something that is practically invisible when open and simple then the old fashioned roll up blinds (which come with a cord at the side to wind them up/down now instead of a honking great big handle or string) can retreat into a panel you could build in at the top of your window and paint the same colour as the walls so it really does disappear? Or a folded screen style blind, or a double blind - a sheer for privacy in the day time and a sunblock for night? Re: Window Furnishings ... Totally stuck for ideas 5Nov 12, 2013 10:30 am As I was reading, I had an idea of what I wanted to say and then realised that snuck beat me to it! Roman blinds or roller blinds that can cover a few of the narrower windows and will work well over all of the other ones. It is also possible to get the materials used for roller blinds treated so that they can be used in the bathroom, kitchen and laundry but most people prefer to opt for some kind of plastic or metal in these spaces (they do seem to withstand the environment a little better). Re: Window Furnishings ... Totally stuck for ideas 6Nov 12, 2013 12:33 pm I really do like the idea of the roller blinds being hidden behind a panel, will have to google some images of this and this is the EXACT look I am after (clean, bare, nothing there), but clearly need something to pull down at night. We are lucky (or unlucky) that we do not have any kitchen windows, except a large stacker door. So we shouldn't have to treat that blind (please correct me if I am wrong). As the bathrooms either have no windows (only skyights) or are upstairs to the back of the house with heavily frosted windows, I really had not given them much thought as yet. I do have plantations currently in my bathrooms, which I love the look of in there, but hate the kids grotty little finger prints on them (when they close them to shower). I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters.
