Browse Forums Window Furnishings 1 Aug 15, 2013 2:21 pm Hi all I know decorating is personal thing - but I would love some input into window / door coverings for our new home. It may be a bit hard to visualise - but I hope I can explain it OK We will have a large dining / family room that is 11 metres long. Along this wall we have 2 stacker doors - each being 3048mm long. They each open from the centre outwards. In between these doors there is a 2504mm gap - which will have centred in the middle a buffet and hutch (approx) 1900mm wide. The wall adjacent to this has 2 windows 1090mm wide that has a 2200mm gap that will have a gas fireplace built in. (so no open flames) Now the reason for my post is that I had always thought that I would do bifold plantation shutters on all of stacker doors and shutters on the windows. But I have been thinking now that the texture of curtains (plus the cost) may be better option. Plus thinking that it may fit in better with the Hamptons style i am trying to create - after my trip to Pottery Barn last week (even though the shutters would look good) HOWEVER if I do the curtains.... do I have the entire 3 metres drag one way (away from the central dresser and door openings) or do I divide them, so that they are balanced. Won't this fabric get in the way seeing that I only have about 300mm either side of the dresser....... my concern is what will 3 metres of curtain all dragged back to one side - what will it look like? too bunched up???? Then if I do curtains that go all one way... what do I do with the windows either side of the fireplace? Can I do a curtain either side that closes in the middle.... or should these also go back one way? I hope you can visualise this and throw your 10 cents in.. I would appreciate some ideas (and pics if anyone has anything similiar) Thanks in advance - Sandy:-) Building the "Symphony Grande" with Masterton Homes If I ever remember to update it - check out my blog http://fernadell.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Curtains OR bifold shutters for stacker doors 2Aug 15, 2013 4:37 pm 30cm each side of the buffet is really too tight to pull the curtain off the window. The actual stack back area required will depend on several factors, including fabric, linings, design etc Re: Curtains OR bifold shutters for stacker doors 3Aug 15, 2013 5:09 pm Thanks for your reply 4walls I agree about the 300mm I visited Pottery Barn and they had a linen curtain that was lined. They looked lovely and the look was what I was after - perhaps not the fabric - as I don't like how linen crushes..... but that's what I was after... as for the space to draw them back to one side - I would have 730mm from the edge of the stacker to the wall.... and as there is one whole door panel that is fixed - then I would have some of that space as well. I am just thinking the curtains also because with the bifolds - they do stick out - and I am thinking that 90% of the time - I would like to have them open.... does this make sense Building the "Symphony Grande" with Masterton Homes If I ever remember to update it - check out my blog http://fernadell.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Curtains OR bifold shutters for stacker doors 4Aug 20, 2013 11:55 pm 4walls 30cm each side of the buffet is really too tight to pull the curtain off the window. They look to have the attachments for the curtains concealed in the rod. Does this sound like S fold? I think it is the tracking that really makes them look classy - are there many suppliers of them yet? as they seem to be still not so common Also - do you custom make curtains? IF so - what area are you in?? There are several companies that produce the tracks in various forms, but all the ones I deal with are to the trade only.
