Browse Forums Window Furnishings 1 Apr 18, 2007 9:09 am Hi guys, just a few questions...
Does anybody know what the difference is between roller blinds and holland blinds? I'm kind of confused because to me they look the same. Also, I'm thinking of getting one of the above to dress our sliding doors. I saw a product which I think is called dual roller blinds whereby one blind is for privacy (but see through) and the other blind is for blockout. I was just wondering if anybody has dual roller blinds and if they are any good? Lastly, we are going to install plantation shutters for all windows in our house other than the sliding doors. What have people done to dress their sliding doors? Other than roller/holland I have no idea on what else to use. Not a big fan of curtains or vertical blinds either. Personally, I also see no real difference in a roller blind or Holland blind. Do you have children???? The duel roller blind will be a nightmare for you if you do! I did a full reno on a holiday cabin down the coast, nothing but the best went into the Honeymoon suit!!! 13 windows where done with the duel blinds….10 of them in the one room. NOT my idea I might add, and defiantly not holiday user friendly!! THAT’S A LOT OF CORDS TO BE PLAYING WITH WHEN YOU JUST WANT TO LOOK OUT A WINDOW. Have a good think about the duel blinds for a main door. Not only do you have one blind to contend with getting up or down you have two….just to walk through a door. It will be a real pain!!! They are great for windows, but they would not be my pick for a sliding door. Check the “Panel Glides” from Luxaflex. http://www.luxaflex.com.au/home/inner.asp?pageid=67 Now these are great for openings, and very stylish. By the way you can get them from other window dressing suppliers not just Luxaflex! Thanks for your reply. Really appreciate it. And glad you enjoy my blog as much as I enjoy putting it together. Anyhoo, we don't have children (yet) and you made think (or reminded me) that those cords aren't very kid friendly. The panel glides were my other option. Looks like I'll probably going with that. I was sitting in the car on the way home trying to think of what two colours I would use if I were to get the dual blinds. That did my head in - BAD! Not only will I have to roll up two blinds I'll have to pick two colours as well. [sneakersss] Re: Roller Blinds, Holland Blinds and Sliding Doors 4Apr 18, 2007 9:19 pm Don't worry about the cords.... law now… they are at a safe hight especially for children, this is so for ALL blinds. You’ll love the glides, they are so user friendly!! I have two sets of windows in my new house that I'd like to use this system on. One is approx 5.5m wide 2.5m drop and one is 3.0m wide, 1.5m drop Re: Roller Blinds, Holland Blinds and Sliding Doors 6Apr 18, 2007 11:00 pm pasey25 Does anyone have any idea of cost on the electric version of the dual blind system? I never got as far as getting actual quotes. Although I found a site that gave me a rough estimate for a manual one at around 800-900 bucks. I did, however, find in my research that you can have the dual rollers installed as manual and then upgrade to electric at a later time. [sneakersss] Re: Roller Blinds, Holland Blinds and Sliding Doors 7Apr 19, 2007 10:49 am They are very expensive; I’d get a quote from a window dressing supplier.
That what you know exactly what you’re up for. Might save me wasting the time of a blinds place if I can't afford them. Re: Roller Blinds, Holland Blinds and Sliding Doors 9Apr 30, 2007 9:49 am Hi there we have plantation shutters on our windows too but hubby doesn't want anything on our sliding doors.
I'm trying to convince him into getting some holland blinds for them that sit quite high and don't obstruct the doors unless you pull them down. I like the idea of your dual rolller blinds though. Re: Roller Blinds, Holland Blinds and Sliding Doors 10May 06, 2007 1:43 pm Hi All,
Holland Blinds and Roller Blinds are virtually the same - although the Holland blind used to often have a scalloped edge detail, (see image attached below) and it was often used together with drapes, more as a decorative treatment. You can still buy the Holland Blind with this detail, and it could certainly look great in a heritage home or similar. The Roller blind is successful as a simple window treatment. Suppliers tend to sell more of the roller blinds now - for their contemporary, streamline and practical 'blockout' qualities. Window treatments are always a difficult one I think - but companies like 'Silentgliss' and 'Bayliss Blinds' always seem to offer good advice and solutions. All the best. Double roller blinds are best for the sliding doors as they very easy to operate, easy to clean and can be pulled up high enough so children can’t play with them. You can also split them into 2 or 3 to fit the panels of your sliding door. Roller blinds are very popular. We wanted to continue the look so are going with bifold plantation shutters across the sliding door. You can also get sliding plantation shutters but we prefer the look of the bifolds.
