I have come to learn that there are different ways to install roller blinds such as recess or face fixed, and the roller blind can be orientated in either over-roll or under-roll configuration. The recessed fixed method looks good but there is a 2 mm gap on each side of the blind allowing light through. The face fixed method usually involves fixing the bracket directly to the architrave. in this case there will be a 13 mm gap between the face of the architrave and the blind, even when installed in the under roll orientation, resulting in a substantial light gap. Note: I have been told about the roller "cassette" solution, in which the roller blind operates within side tracks. this is something I am considering however I anticipate this being quite expensive, which I'm trying to avoid. I purchased one roller blind to experiment face fixing with. I've taken measurements of the roller component, the bracket, and the surrounding architrave. See images attached. My plan is to mount the bracket directly into a stud rather than onto the architrave as a way to reduce (ideally minimise to 0mm) the gap between the blind and the architrave itself. Referring to the image attached, based on calculation, if the roller is orientated in the under role position, there will be no light gap however the architrave will obstruct/interfere with the bottom rail of the roller blind when operating the blind. From here, it seems I need to use a spacer to slightly increase the protrusion of the bracket from the stud wall. Based on calculation the spacer would need to be 5mm thick. Has anyone else had the same problem and come up with the same kind of solution?
