The sliding door shutters stack on top of each other and you can open/ close them when the slats are open or closed and they do not bang into each other. They do stick out a fair bit, but that is not an issue for us as we have plenty of space in that area. Very happy. Hope they survive the toddler phase (which is likely to last at least another 4 years for us). After some ideas on making our patio kid friendly . Currently we have exposed aggregate.
