Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Jun 16, 2020 2:20 pm Moved to a new house 18 months ago and just got a letter to say we have to register the pool (Vic). There are two sliding doors from the house to the pool area, which I understand are no longer allowed (assuming the pool was built after 2010 but I'm waiting for confirmation of build date). I'm trying to find out if:- 1 - can we screw the doors shut & locked and remove the handles, effectively making them full size windows. They are not used, there are plenty of other doors to the same aspect that don't lead to the pool area. 2 - if no, can we add glass pool fence panels directly in front of the sliding doors only, so they can still open but basically opening onto a fence. The fence panels spanning only the door way between brick walls if you know what I mean? (Like a 1st floor Juliet balcony?). If I can get confirmation that the pool was installed before 2010 am I correct in thinking that sliding door from the house to the pool area are still allowed as long as they are self closing with appropriate child safe openers? Still in the process of getting a professional out to inspect, but trying to arm myself with info in the mean time. Thanks. Re: Another pool fence question? 2Jun 16, 2020 8:04 pm I had wondered about this scenario, my QLD based parents house have the same problem My suggestion was to screw security bars or similar on the outside of the door. That way you could still open the door if required. Based on my interpretation of the rules this would pass Non climbable and gaps less than 100mm Re: Another pool fence question? 3Jun 17, 2020 7:53 am Found the original pool certificate last night, it was signed off in 2012, so we'll have to come under the newer legislation which is NO doors between house & pool regardless of whether they are self closing, blocked off or screwed shut. Re: Another pool fence question? 4Jun 20, 2020 7:44 pm They an be screwed close . If you need a tool to open they will comply and efffectivly just be a window .
