Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Feb 09, 2020 2:49 pm Hi, With days of rain smashing the east coast (im in Sydney) I am looking for some advice for a new pool owner. It was just completed 4 weeks ago. We had the heat wave, now the unrelenting rain. My questions is: It was just converted to Salt 2 days ago. The system should generate chlorine from the salt as it needs it. But given its raining for days, should i turn off the Salt water chlorinator since its just going to be working overtime till this rain stops? Thanks in advance. Re: Days of rain and what does this mean for your pool? 2Feb 11, 2020 3:26 pm The last few months have been terrible for keeping your pool clean and balanced . All the ash added a lot of phosphate to pools which rapidly depleated chlorine and in some cases gave false readings . It also blocked and destroyed a lot of filters . Then the first rain in Sydney was acid and dropped the ph in many pools by .5 . Now the heavy rains caused pools to overflow and dilute chemicals . The actions required do vary depending on the equipment you have . The salt level will probably be low . Most chlorinator shave a salt reading or low salt indicator . If not you will need to get tested . After all heavy rain it is best to run chlorinator on boost or max output for about 12 hrs . It has a similar effect to a shock treatment . The sooner you do this the less chance of your pool going green . Once rain stops test water and check ph and alkalinity . Cheers I'll be here once a week, lets make that Mondays. If you have a question, this will be the day I will log in for a look around.. If your lucky, sooner. Ask away...… 0 6404 8 6190 Approvals are covered in the cost we are paying to the pool company.
