Browse Forums Pools & Spas 1 Aug 16, 2018 2:27 pm Hi all, We bought our house 5 years ago that came with a kidney shape pebblecrete pool. I really maintained it well for the first few years despite only using it a handful of times. We got a new chlorinator put in and it was working fine. Last summer I decided to get the pool really clean so we could invite our friends over and finally get some use out of it. I poured in the chemicals and proceeded to plug in the creepy crawly to the filter, but there was hardly any suction. After playing around with it for a while with no luck, I decided to put the cover over it and leave it. My wife and I discussed filling it in, but after consideration we decided that we’d like to keep it. We know we have to spend money on it but I rather like the look of it plus our young child will love it in summer. So we know we need a new pump. The pump is horribly inefficient and our electricity bills are generally double when using the pump. I went into the local pool shop to discuss solar options, but when I was there I came access this variable speed pump - https://www.hayward-pool.com.au/shop/en ... axflovs--1 They claim it saves up to 80% on your electricity bills, or around $88 a year to run 8 hours a day. I’d be happy even if it was double that cost a year to run. I can get it installed for around $1600. Does anyone have thoughts on the Hayward pump v solar? I know solar will pay for itself after so many years, but it’s still an expensive initial cost. I think I saw figures around the $4000 mark plus install, then I’d still need a new pump. My other question has to do with draining the pool and high pressure cleaning the inside of the pool. Over the past two years as the creepy crawly performance started to decline, there has been lots of stains that brushing won’t get rid of. So I’d like to drain the pool, scrub and high pressure hose then refill it. It’s just so disgusting at the moment that I’d feel a lot better starting over again. I know the risk with leaving an empty pool, but I’d do it rather quickly without delay. This then got me thinking, how about painting the inside of the pool with an paint from luxapool that’s designed for pebblecrete. Has anyone painted a pebblecrete pool before? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any pictures if possible. Sorry for the long winded post, but I’d really appreciate your help and or feedback. Thank you and regards, Andy Re: Pool questions 2Aug 16, 2018 5:49 pm hi welcome to homeone you have only one post so i wont give a huge answer but dont paint it under any circumstance unless you are planning to sell up within 12 months if you come back there is a lot of information at troublefree pool Re: Pool questions 3Aug 17, 2018 4:23 am aussieta hi welcome to homeone you have only one post so i wont give a huge answer but dont paint it under any circumstance unless you are planning to sell up within 12 months if you come back there is a lot of information at troublefree pool Thanks for the reply. I’ve done some further research and your comments seem to be echoed through various forums. It seems the paint will peel away after a few years, therefore there is no point in doing so. Is it the pebblecrete that’s the problem with the paint? Re: Pool questions 4Aug 17, 2018 4:31 pm i bought my house 5 years ago the sellers painted the pool with an expensive epoxy paint looked great fro 2 years then people started getting blue feet after 3 years blue hands, feet, backs the paint just rubbed off i had to replace my solar as well https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/26M2-SOLAR- ... 337879e1ce and bought a new pump https://www.directpoolsupplies.com.au/p ... mps/davey/ i had my pool refinished with ecobright cost nearly $20,000 as they had to grind all the old paint off first for you stains you can do an acid wash without draining Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10415 We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation.
